Siphonic & Gravity Create Perfect Brew on Major City Project
Capcon Engineering provided their drainage expertise and solutions know-how on this flagship development on the site of the former Beamish and Crawford Brewery on South Main Street in Cork City.
Overall, nine new siphonic systems worked in tandem with a number of gravity systems in smaller roof areas to provide a complete drainage solution. This 420 Bed purpose-built student accommodation block was the first of three phases of re-development at this historic old brewery site and is expected to transform this part of the city.
Key Engineering Challenges
Residential buildings typically have extensive pipe work running through apartment spaces. Our major priority on this project was to avoid this pipe work and this was only achieved through a detailed, highly specified co-ordination process that focussed on corridors and the basement.
One key issue was the presence of a 900mm drop beam in this basement area. By casting a large portion of our basement pipe work, our construction partner could maximise the capacity of their attenuation tanks, demonstrating our technical knowledge on specific engineering challenges.
